BUNTLINE SPECIAL REVOLVER WITH MATCHING FACTORY BOX. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 65665SA. Bbl. 11 7/8". Third Generation Single Action Army Buntline Special revolver mfg. by Colt in 1978. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT BUNTLINE SPECIAL .45", with Colt's single line address marked across the top. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt's 2-line patent information, followed by the Rampant Colt logo. Frame and loading gate exhibit a case colored finish overall, with remaining metal components exhibiting a blue finish. Sides of hammer are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered black synthetic grips. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, cyl., as well as the trigger guard and rear grip strap (beneath the left grip panel). Standard SAA pattern blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: plain cardboard Colt factory box, matching via the full S#, which is handwritten in marker on the underside of the bottom panel. Grips are mismatched, but match each other via "45601". CONDITION: fine, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory finishes overall, exhibiting some light wear on the left side of the muzzle. Cyl. exhibits some superficial handling marks, as well as a few faint draglines between the cyl. stops. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips are excellent overall. Box shows some exterior wear, with some minor losses to the end label, as well as a tear to one corner of the lid. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of John "Jack" Dhooghe.
