SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S#447551. Bbl. Barrel has been shortened to 24 1/8". Model 1877 rear sight marked "R" on the front left corner. Graduated to 1200 yards. Stud type front sight. The shortened barrel has the "VP eagle" proofs. The barrel has two threaded holes on the right side between the forend tip and the muzzle. 1884 dated casehardened breechblock with low arch. Lock has U.S./ SPRINGFIELD and "eagle". 3 position tumbler. Firing pin has been shortened to prevent firing. Extractor does not "snap" properly. Original finish walnut stock is marked on the left side enhanced in white with boxed SWP/1889. Encircled "P" proof under grip. The stock has been shortened and the upper band and forend tip remounted giving an overall stock length of app. 40 1/4".The swivels have been removed and the upper band holes plugged. Swivel bow is not present in trigger guard. Ramrod is not present. CONDITION: stock has moderate wear and handling marks. Metal has a mix of worn original and rework blue finish. Bore is shiny with sharp lands except for the area near the muzzle has moderate pitting. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (01-28628/RW). ANTIQUE. $ 500-800.
