SERIAL NUMBER: NSN, BARREL: 22 1/2" CALIBER: 50-70 GOV'T MFG: 1866. Production of 25,000 units authorized to Erskine Allen of Springfield armory for his conversion of 1863 rifle muskets. Features 2 retaining bands with patented trapdoor breech dated 1866. Pattern 1855 rifle musket sight with post front sight. Bore reduced to .50 caliber with liner. CONDITION. Very Good, Barrel has been cut to about 22 1/2" and stock has been cut proportionately. Lock action is crisp with 2 position hammer tumbler. Barrel and iron hardware have been cleaned to the white. Lock and hammer show original case colors. Legends are good. Stocks shows impressions and wear. There are no visible cartouches, and the is a repair under the buttstock. Missing the cleaning rod. The bore is clean with some frosting and scattered pitting. The nose cap and front barrel band have modern screws. ANTIQUE
