Description
Agate Jade Beast, H: 3cm, L: 7.3cm, W: 4cm, 113g. This archaic agate carving dates from the Han to the Tang Dynasty, mostly unearthed from noble tombs. Carved from southern red agate with natural white and brown textures, it adopts the round carving technique to depict an auspicious beast (bear-shaped), featuring simple and unsophisticated lines and natural textures, embodying the "freehand and expressive" characteristic of archaic agate carving. Archaic southern red agate auspicious beasts from the Han to the Tang Dynasty (206 BC–907 AD) are rare in existence with exquisite craftsmanship, serving as an important physical object for the study of ancient agate craftsmanship, with extremely high historical and artistic values.
