This Akoya Pearl Display was made, when Cultured Japanese Akoya Pearl was first introduced to the European Jewelry Market in 1920. The display shows Akoya Pearl development in shell and presents 8 Akoay Pearls in the center. Decorated with flowers and butterflies made with small sea shells and silver cord, on cream cotton bed. Original burl wood frame, original back and metal hangers. I found it in Bangkok in 2014 in a collection of elderly Japanese antiques dealer. Rare. Japan, Taisho Era, 1920. Very Good condition - minor age wear overall, water damage on cotton in top left corner, which can be restored if desired.
