Description
Hailing from the mountainous Swat Valley region, this sturdy chest was traditionally used as a "dowry box" to store valuable textiles, jewelry, and family heirlooms. Crafted from dense Himalayan Cedar it features the region's signature deep-relief carving. The front panel is dominated by two large solar rosettes (symbols of life and protection) flanked by stylized floral vine motifs. This long carved chest retains its original vertical side rails"”which historically helped secure the chest with ropes during transport"”and a simple iron hasp for the top-opening lid. Its warm, honey-brown patina tells the story of decades of use.
With its 31-inch height and 52-inch length, this carved chest is an ideal size for a unique media console or TV stand. It sits low enough to place a television on top (or mount one above) without straining the neck, while offering massive internal storage for hiding unsightly cables, gaming consoles, or spare blankets. Alternatively, place it in a wide hallway as a statement entryway console.
