Description
I purchased this beautiful Tansu in 1996 in Los Angeles and used it to house my large television.
Later, when tv's became flat, the Tansu became a hallway piece for storage, then a cabinet in my dining room and later a wardrobe in a bedroom. The upper shelf on the left side was removed for the large and deep tv's that we all used to have.
The Tansu can hold a ton of items from linens to dishes, clothing etc...
Condition:
Alterations: Original Design Modified
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: 19th century Karuma Tansu , a cabinet on wheels. These cabinets were used to store one's belongings and the wheels made them easy to move outside during fires or earthquakes which were common in Japan where homes were made solely out of wood.
The wheels still work perfectly the hardware is original. The doors are removable and easy to slide on and off. The patina is beautiful, and considering the age (1850) the piece is in amazing condition.
A very unusual piece for any eclectic home.
