19th century Chinese soapstone seal, its top carved as a mother Foo lion with her playful cub trying to jump onto her back. The first photo shows the image of the bottom flipped left to right, so the seal can be read. Wonderful carving on richly colored stone with fine play of yellows and browns, beautiful patina and wear attesting to the age of the object. The bottom is carved with four sunken characters, red seal paste in the grooves. Wonderful object for scholar’s table. Height 3.66 inches, printing surface size 1.02 x 1.02 inches.
