19th century boxwood netsuke depicting seated Yojo stabbing the king’s cloak with his sword. The master of Yojo (in Chinese Yu Jang) was killed, and after several unsuccessful attempts to assassinate the killer of his master - the King of Chin - he shredded the robe of a new king with his sword as a token of revenge, and committed suicide. Excellently carved, wonderful face with a touch of madness, beautiful wear and patina. Hirotoshi is formed by natural openings in the cloak on the bottom. Length 1.91 inches.
