18th century boxwood netsuke of a monkey sitting on rockery with a huge chestnut in its hands. Humorously carved, great facial expression. Large himotoshi (cord opening) consistent with the habit of the time, beautiful warm patina, very strong early piece. Height 2.02 inches.
