19th century boxwood netsuke of а seated monkey biting into a fruit (looks like Biwa fruit) that it holds in one hand, and leaning on the ground with the other. Fantastic facial expression, superb quality hairwork, eyes and teeth are inlaid, extraordinary detailing of finger joints and fingernails. Very beautiful warm brown staining, great patina, in excellent condition.
