
Description
19th century boxwood netsuke of a seated man, his hands raised in delight, a pot dug from a hole in the ground and a hoe in front of him, and a standing woman with a baby in her arms. The netsuke represents one of the Chinese paragons of filial virtue, that of Kakkyo, who was very poor and decided to bury his living child to be able to feed his old mother. While digging a grave, he found a pot filled with gold. Excellent carving, great faces, beautiful wear and patina, Height 1.62 inches.
