Late 19c netsuke CAT stretching on mushroom inlaid eyes

Description

Late Meiji boxwood netsuke of a cat stretching and sharpening its claws on a stem of a huge mushroom. Rather unusual subject, great carving, wonderful textures of the animal’s fur and the gills of the mushroom, expert staining. Eyes are double inlaid with black and amber colored horn. Height 1.74 inches.
