
An interesting and rare Anglo-Indian late 18th century ebony inlaid padouk and ebonised campaign secretaire chest 1780-c.1800 In two sections, the top with an overhanging moulded edge and a cavetto cornice, the drawers with lozenge tablet inlaid drawer pull surrounds and reed moulded borders, above a secretaire drawer, enclosing four pigeon holes and two short mahogany lined drawers flanking a central arched panelled door decorated with faux pleated material behind faux brass trellis work, and an inset writing surface, over three long graduated drawers, on shaped bracket feet, 74cm wide x 46.5cm deep x 107.5cm high, (29in wide x 18in deep x 42in high) Footnotes: Provenance The offered lot, along with the eight other pieces of campaign furniture featuring in this section of the sale, previously belonged to a private collector who acquired these items over the course of the last approximately 60 years.
