Description
Untitled, oil on cardboard, 50 × 70 cm, signed. Framed. Accompanied by authentication from the artist’s granddaughter. Minor edge-related cardboard loss along the margins. A high-quality work.Marcel Janco (1895–1984) was a Romanian–Israeli painter, art theorist, and architect, and a recipient of the Israel Prize. He is best known as one of the founders of Dada, the avant-garde movement established in Zurich in 1916. Dada artists worked across multiple disciplines—visual art, literature, poetry, film, and more—seeking to challenge the accepted patterns of thought in society and in the art of their time, and were truly groundbreaking for their era. To put this into perspective, Dada is often regarded as a movement of comparable importance to Picasso’s Cubism, Dalí’s Surrealism, and other major currents that have left—and continue to leave—a lasting mark on art history.Later, Janco immigrated to Israel and was among the founders of the well-known artists’ village Ein Hod. He held exhibitions in leading museums in Israel and abroad.
