Description
宋 定窯白釉鹿紋小盤
The shallow dish is finely potted with gently rounded sides rising to a softly everted rim, dressed overall in a lustrous ivory-white glaze of characteristic Ding tone. The interior is delicately molded with a recumbent deer beneath stylized foliage, rendered in low relief with fluid, restrained lines. The rim is bound in metal, as customary for Ding wares, attesting to its refinement and historical appreciation. The glaze pools softly in the recesses. Song Dynasty period.
Height: 7/8 in (2.2 cm) Width: 5 1/2 in (14.0 cm)
Provenance: Property from a old private collection, Los Angeles
