Description
Rare early example of provincial manufacture. Gilt bronze, just over 1/2" (0.51") height plus the loop. Natural form (Vikings used both natural and cusped forms) with the sides slightly compressed and with nubs perhaps representing a horizontal bar or line. The center with lenticular depression, perhaps anatomical. Flat section, made by the open face mold technique. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored for contemporary wear on an 18” gilt Sterling silver neck chain. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
