This is just a great original piece. I have had a couple other Harold Cheney works in the past few years. They have all been portraits. He was most known for his portraits as well as his landscapes of Boston and other parts of Massachusetts. He also did these wonderful still life paintings. I just acquired 3 of them from a local estate and am offering them this week. Some really great paintings. This one, I find to be the best of the group. Signed and dated lower right, this painting is titled by the artist in the upper right corner 'Studio Junk'. A wonderful still life of a grouping of the artist's paintings including a portrait, a seascape and a boat in harbor sitting on a bench with a blanket. On the floor is a bottle, or 2 a sculpture, a sword, and a jar of the artist's paint brushes. I think the title is really perfect. It is all the things you would find in an artist's studio. Painting is oil on board measuring 24 x 28 inches and is in excellent condition. Really clean and vibrant with just a few small spots of discoloration and perhaps some very minor surface grime. Really an outstanding example of the artist's work. Gold frame is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 26 1/2 x 30 1/2 inches.
