Description
Silvered bronze axe, just under 1 3/4" (1.71") height, of iconic Viking battle axe form with circular socket flared front and back for stability on the haft. Back swept bearded bit, pierced with a single hole and back nub and decorated with repeated dot and circle motifs. These votive axes are found in the Baltic hinterlands and were used sacrificially, probably at funerals of warriors. This example has been professionally refurbished with the pure silver surface restored. It is suspended from a 3mm Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. It is jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
