Signed R. Eickholt 1978, this early large-format orb exemplifies Robert Eickholt’s signature crackle-reactive surface chemistry from the late 1970s. The piece displays a mesmerizing planetary texture—an alchemical matrix of celadon, ochre, and mineral green fractured with deep turquoise pools and scattered violet–magenta metallic highlights. The overall effect is geological and cosmic at once, reminiscent of oxidized copper, petrified coral, or the surface of some distant exoplanet. The depth of the internal layering suggests multiple reheat cycles and reactive metal oxides—a hallmark of Eickholt’s early experimental period.
