
**Martini Style System Friebe Schuetzen Rifle by Pfau & Friebe
Unknown chambering, nominally 9mm bore. 30" octagonal barrel. No serial number. Blued and color casehardened finish, figured European hardwood stock with checkered wrist, left side cheek rest and Swiss style buttplate. Single shot Martini type action with Swiss sight base missing ladder, front sign blade with protective ears, extended triggerguard, double set triggers and sling swivels. Barrel marked in silver letters PFAU & FRIEBE in MUHLHAUSEN with the left side of the receiver marked in two lines SYSTEM FRIEBE/PATENT No. 13840. Receiver engraved with some tight banknote scrolls. Apparently based upon Friebe & Pfau's 1881 patent for improvements in breechloading firearms. {C&R}

Condition
Fair to Good. Bore dark and dirty with strong rifling. Metal heavily oxidized with hints of blued finish and case colors on the frame, otherwise with an attic brown patina. Markings and engraving mostly visible. Mechanically functional action. Wood with moderate wear, some chipped loss at the lower rear of the forend, and numerous bumps, dings, scuffs, scrapes and mars.
