Title: 1854 Albumen Print of the Deposition from the Cross

Description: Deposition from the Cross is a tempera altarpiece on panel built between 1432 and 1434 by the painters Beato Angelico and Lorenzo Monaco. It is kept at the National Museum of San Marco in Florence.
Fra Angelico painted this altarpiece on a single panel for the Strozzi Chapel, in the Church of Santa Trinita in Florence. In the center is Christ supported by some people. Mary tenderly holds the feet of Christ and represents human repentance. The figure with the red hat on the right holds the nails taken from the cross and the crown of thorns that are the symbol of passion and sacrifice. Mary, with her dark dress, joins her hands in a traditional gesture of pain, repeated by the woman who is on her left.
The print measures 9.25x7.5” and is loosely mounted to circa 1910 cardboard picture frame. 12.5:x11.5"
