Description
This work is based on the fire that broke out in the Shirtwaist Factory in New York. Every woman working in the factory died in the fire, because the doors had been locked. Honig created this work using one letter from the alphabet for something related to the fire, perhaps a woman's name. Each hanger features a letter on the front and an image and description of the meaning on the other side. Peregrine Honig is an American artist recognized for her intimate, psychologically complex figurative works exploring identity and embodiment. The hand coloring adds individuality and depth to each impression. This work showcases Honig?s refined printmaking skill and emotive visual language. The artwork is in very good condition and was printed at Landfall Press. Honig's art is found in major museums such as The Art Institute of Chicago and The Whitney Museum of American Art.
