Stunning Japanese 4-panel painted silk Byobu (folding screen), depicting a scene from the 11th century classic work of Japanese literature "The Tale of Genji" written by the noblewoman and poet, lady Murasaki Shikibu. Signed and sealed by artist. Watercolor and ink on silk. Silk border. Lacquered black wood frame with engraved copper corners and plaques, showing age patina. Paper on back. Detailed. Silk on this screen changes color from goldenrod to champagne, depending on light and angle. This screen had one owner and probably was in storage for few decades. Japan, Showa Era, circa 1970-1980s. Excellent condition - no damage to the painting nor back, minor age wear overall, strong hinges, clean, sturdy.
