Beautiful extra large antique Meiji Era Japanese 6-Panel painted Byobu (folding screen) depicting landscape with scenes of Chinese Palace Courtyard with trees, people indoors and outdoors, birds and dogs. Barely visible seal of artist at the lower right corner. Yamato-E Style. Gouache, watercolor, ink and gold pigment mist on paper. Silk brocade border. Lacquered black wood frame with metal corners showing age patina. Paper on back. The painting looks older than the frame and paper on back, and covers on hinges between the panels, which indicates professional restoration done sometime in the first part of the 20th century. The frame was possibly refinished with black lacquer, or replaced. Japan, Meiji Era, circa 1885 - 1912.
