Thomas Vorce – Shadow WorksThe series Shadow Works captures patterns of light and shadow throughout Northern New Mexico, revealing the extraordinary in the everyday. In the final days of his life, while in hospice, members of the Santa Fe art community rallied to present a gallery exhibition celebrating his vision and legacy.Vorce believed deeply in the power of black-and-white photography: “The foundations of photography were laid down in black and white, and the mastery of this technique is essential to selecting and composing that which is worthy of distinction. When your eyes are open to shadows, even common realities take on another dimension, and it is this 'other dimension' that I wish to celebrate in my images. Often the best images would come when I least expected them—like visual poems, driven by a higher syntax.”An accomplished scholar, Vorce studied under masters of photography and architecture. He was also a poet and the founder of the Santa Fe Broadsheet. He passed away peacefully at the age of 68, leaving a profound impact on all who knew him. Additional works by Vorce can be viewed at the Webster Collection on the Santa Fe Plaza.
