VIKING WOMAN'S WEDDING RING, SIZE 4 ½

Description

Cambridgeshire, England, 9th-11th century AD. Silvered bronze, size 4 ½ for the small finger as was the custom. 2.7mm width band with low rounded face hammer faceted, probably from the funerary ritual. Vikings exchanged rings on the pommel of the groom's sword. Made with a core filling the inside which distributed the flowing metal and allowed for slower cooling. The core was then laboriously removed by hand and the inside of the ring was polished. Remnants of the core are evident inside the ring. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
