Together with his brother Edouard they founded in 1888 the Michelin Tyre Company - Compagnie Générale des Établissements Michelin - in Clermont-Ferrand. In 1900, André Michelin published the first worldwide known Michelin Guide, the purpose of which was to promote tourism by car, supporting his tyre manufacturing operation.
