
CHARLES X: (1523-1590) Cardinal de Bourbon. French nobleman and prelate who served as the Archbishop of Rouen from 1550 and was the disputed King of France 1589-90. D.S., Card. de Bourbon, one page (vellum), oblong folio, 24th August 1569, in Middle French. The manuscript document relates to the sale of the land of Boinvilliers to Nicolas Houzé. Signed at the foot by Cardinal de Bourbon and countersigned by Fabio Mirto Frangipani (d.1587) Roman Catholic prelate who served as Bishop of Caiazzo 1537-72 and Charles de Lorraine (1554-1611) Duke of Mayenne, French nobleman, governor, military commander and rebel during the latter French Wars of Religion. All three signatures are somewhat faded. Further signed to the plica by Antoine Hotman (c.1525-1596) French writer who was politically active in the Catholic League during the Wars of Religion.
