
Description
Circa 1870s, the circular pouch consists of two pieces of native tanned hide sewn together with sinew, the front piece features a blue seed bead and Maltese cross on a white field, the center not beaded, the back is painted green with a red dot, the edges decorated with an alternating bar motif, mounted on a custom base. Ht. 4 1/2, wd. 4 3/4 in. Provenance: The James Pavitt and Carolyn Stettner collection, Santa Fe, NM; H. Malcolm Grimmer, Santa Fe, NM.
