World War Two U.S. Navy VF-87 squadron patch. The patch is silkscreen on canvas. Measures 7.25"x 7.5". Established as Fighter Squadron Eighty Seven (VF-87) on July 1,1944. The insignia approval date is unknown. VF-87 was deployed aboard the USS Randolph and USS Ticonderoga. The squadron flew the Grumman F6F-5/5N/5P. The squadron combat history included an attack on Taroa in the Marshall Islands, participated in support mission in the final phases of the Okinawa Campaign, and Conducted attacks on the Japanese Homeland. Taroa in the Marshall Islands. the carrier then continuing to Ulithi where she joined Task Force 58 in time to participate in the final support missions of the Okinawa campaign.
