Description
A very rare Sturmabteilung ‘coffee-can’-style cap or kepi with brown cotton drill crown, sides, and bill, with an apple-green wool top beneath the crown, indicative of SA-Gruppe Thuringia. Affixed to the front is a later-pattern SA eagle, above a pebbled silver button and a two-piece brown faux leather strap with two adjustment buckles, RZM-marked on the reverse and secured across the visor with a brown-finished magnetic button on each side. The crown is fitted on each side with two brown air vent grommets. The interior is lined with nut-brown cotton stamped with the maker’s mark of Maria Damm of Werne, below which appears the size stamp ‘57’. The metal insignia in the front are attached through the liner with split pins. The light-brown leather sweatband is maker-marked ‘Nagy Wien’, and covers a brown cloth SA RZM tag identifying the cap as an ‘Tuchmutze’ (cloth cap). The crown is slightly off-center, and the eagle insignia shows white polish residue, while the vent grommets show oxidation to the interior and the sweatband shows small cracks and a tear near the maker’s name, otherwise in very good to fine condition overall.
