(1821-1897) Confederate major general who fought with Jackson at Harper's Ferry, defended Marye's Heights, and led at the Peach Orchard and Devil's Den at Gettysburg. Scarce A.L.S. with good association and content, 1p. 4to., Savannah, June 5, 1888 to fellow former Confederate general Evander M. Law. In full: ‘I sent you, a paper, which I called the… history of the Tennessee Campaign, and a printed publication of my report of the operations of my Division in that Campaign. If you can now spare them, I would be glad to get them back, as I am writing upon the same subject, embracing matters which I did not include in my official report. Please send by Express.’ He signs ‘L McLaws’ at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, with a small pencil notation to the verso, otherwise in fine condition overall.
