Description
Silver Gilt Token, Pre-Ming Dynasty. Length 10.4cm, width 8cm, weight 115g. Similar to "tiger head plaques" or waist tags of the Liao, Jin and Yuan Dynasties, used as military, post or religious credentials. Silver body with gilding and natural oxidized patina. Top chiseled with scroll patterns; the plaque features gilt and silver inlay (or intaglio gilding) with ethnic minority scripts (suspected Khitan, Jurchen or Phags-pa), edged with raised lines, neatly crafted. Liao-Jin to Yuan-Ming period (pre-Ming). Such tokens are core artifacts for studying ancient military systems, ethnic scripts and metal craftsmanship, extremely rare with high historical and academic value.
