Solid brass bell from the ship H.M.S. Hesperus, engraved “H.M.S. Hesperus” fitted with a six canon crown mount cast into the bell. H.M.S. Hesperus was a H-class destroyer of the British Royal Navy, laid down in 1936, launched in 1936, and commissioned in 1937. Displacing approximately 1,350 tons, she was armed with 4.7-inch guns, torpedo tubes, and anti-aircraft weapons, and was employed on convoy escort, patrol, and anti-submarine duties during the Second World War. Hesperus played a crucial role in protecting Allied shipping across the Atlantic, engaging enemy submarines and surface raiders.
