Eberhard Rees autographed 10.5 × 8.5-inch Bureau of Engraving and Printing souvenir postal sheet commemorating American achievements in space exploration. The sheet features four engraved vignettes from the Echo 1 “Communications for Peace” commemorative postage stamp of 1960 and was issued in connection with INTERPEX New York, the 14th International Stamp Exhibition, March 17–19, 1972. Printed text outlines key U.S. space-related commemoratives honoring early rocket research, satellite communications, and the Decade of Space Achievement. Rees has autographed the sheet in blue ink at the lower right, directly associating his signature with official U.S. space commemoration and philatelic history.
Fine condition.
Eberhard Rees (1908–1998) was a German-born aerospace engineer and senior NASA administrator who served as Director of the Marshall Space Flight Center from 1963 to 1970. A close associate of Wernher von Braun, Rees played a critical role in the development of the Saturn launch vehicles that powered the Apollo Moon missions. Autographed postal and commemorative material signed by Rees is especially desirable, reflecting the intersection of technological achievement, public recognition, and the cultural legacy of the Apollo era.
