Description
Exquisite 19th C Guilloche Hand Mirror Stamped Austria. Austrian guilloche was not faberge but, it was made with the same fine attention to detail and more as a tribute to Faberge. Luxury hand mirrors such as this were sought after by European aristocracy during the Belle Epoch period. This one is rich in Louis XVI details.
This hand mirror is in rich coral, a color sought after by the aristocracy of the time. There are French bows and festoons, fabulous ribbon wrapped rods, a center porcelain and glass portrait of an aristocratic lady in an ornate gilded French bow frame. The mirror is beveled and circular with charming age specks that are just enough. The handle has inlaid gold details. The ornamental lathe details in the enamel coral rival Faberge. The guilloche lathe machines were manually operated by highly skilled artists. And it shows everywhere on this hand mirror. There are multiple fine details that amaze and please the eyes.
The hand mirror is fine art in itself. Gilded bronze and many Louis XVI fine embellishments make this a rare piece to be desired.
The stamped Austria mark is hidden at the top of the handle under the ornate details. See last photo for Austria stamp. Since the art was highly specialized it was often custom made with the rose lathe and were one of a kind.
