Robert Smithson, American,1938-1973, Untitled, noted within each woodcut, 'Boys Looking at a Hot Book, Speaking at High School Assembly, Teenagers and Beggar on 42nd Street for Daniel Donahue', woodcut on paper, signed and dated lower right 'R.Smithson 10/1955' , en verso Whitney Museum of American Art and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles inventory labels. Note: The Castellane gallery held Smithson two solo shows. This likely extant untitled woodcut print was made when Smithson was 17, the piece was submitted to the Arts Student League in scholarship application for high school students for which he won. One of the jury members at the time was Philip Guston. Special thanks to both Suzaan Boettger and the Munson Museum staff for their provenance contributions.
