Description
The water dropper would have been utilized by a scholarly gentleman for calligraphy. It is a slab-constructed porcelain rectangle with two holes designed for dispensing water. The dropper is decorated with deep cobalt blue landscape scenes, characterized by good detail despite being painted quickly. The piece exudes a very soft texture and exhibits some crackling in the glaze. It rests on four shallow corner feet.
MEASUREMENTS
3 3/4 in (9.5 cm) long x 2 3/8 in (5.9 cm) deep x 1 3/4 in (4.4 cm) tall. Weighs 8.8 oz.
CONDITION
The item is free from chips, breaks, or repairs. However, there are manufacturing flaws such as black spots, firing cracks, and bumps. Please note that the firing crack extends into the well and so the dropper leaks water when filled. (If you wanted to use it as a water dropper you could fill it with a modern caulk that could be removed later if desired) Additionally, crazing is visible on the glaze on the base and some of the sides.
