Description
A large scale waterline Van Ryper model. MS Roma was an Italian ocean liner launched in 1926 following WW1. She and her sister ship, MS Augustus, 11 were eagerly anticipated as economies in Europe started to rebound. Roma provided a highly decorated baroque atmosphere for 1675 passengers in four classes. She was 706 ft. and 32,583 GRT. Equipped with engines from a canceled battleship, she was quite fast for her day. When WW2 broke out, Roma was converted to an aircraft carrier, the Aquila. After being passed around the various political divisions during the course of the war, she was finally scrapped at Le Spezia in 1952. The model is in excellent condition and sits on a 14" branded base.
