Lladro Christopher Columbus (Model #5944)

Description

A finely detailed glazed porcelain figurine by Lladro titled Christopher Columbus, model number 5944. This piece was issued in 1992 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the voyage to the Americas. The explorer is depicted in 15th-century period attire, including a cream-colored tunic with a buckled belt, a mauve-gray fur-trimmed surcoat, and light blue hose. He is captured in an oratorical pose with his right hand raised in gesture while his left hand holds a soft cap, standing against a draped pedestal on an integral oval base. The underside of the base features the blue underglaze Lladro mark with the bellflower logo, Hand Made in Spain, and copyright DAISA 1992. It also bears the impressed model number 5944, impressed marks F-17 Y, and a black circular stamp reading España 92. Approximately 9.5 inches tall.
