Description
Early 20th century oil painting depicting a scenic Highland landscape with mountainous terrain and a small gathering of Scottish cattle in the foreground. Executed with detailed brushwork and a strong sense of light and atmosphere, characteristic of the romantic Highland views associated with Francis E. Jamieson (1895–1950). The work is signed “W. Richards,” a known pseudonym used by Jamieson, who was born in England but became widely recognized for his evocative depictions of the Scottish Highlands and its lochs. A prolific painter working primarily in oils, Jamieson produced landscapes distinguished by luminous skies and dramatic light over tranquil waters. Housed in an ornate gilt frame. Frame measures approximately 23 1/4" H x 33 1/4" W x 1 3/8" D. Some wear to frame with minimal areas of discoloration visible on the painting.
