Signature form featuring a distinctive swirl clay pattern, signed with an incised signature on the base. William J. Gordy (1910–1993) was a Georgia potter known for functional pottery rooted in the Southern tradition. Trained by his father, W.T.B. Gordy, he began making pottery at age 14 and learned wood firing early in his career. Gordy later moved beyond traditional folk forms, developing new clay blends and experimenting with innovative glazes on wood-fired pottery. Measures approximately 5 1/2″ H x 2 1/2″ diameter. Good condition.
