A wonderful example of signed American folk art, signed "Marley" or "Marlay" and dated '29. This cane features a smooth, sanded surface with a glossy finish, where varied stains are used to define the curving shaft and suggest the appearance of scales. The head of the serpent is meticulously detailed with incised carving defining the mouth, while the eyes are accented with light yellow polychrome paint. Measures approximately 41" H x 1 1/2" in diameter. Good condition.
