Southern folk art stoneware Jack-o’-lantern by Georgia potter Mike Hanning (1954–2022), known for his expressive and whimsical clay work within the Southern folk pottery tradition. Hanning was mentored by members of the renowned Meaders family of potters, whose influence can be seen in his forms and glaze techniques. This example features a rich runny alkaline glaze with carved facial cut-outs for eyes and mouth and an opening on the reverse designed for a candle. Fitted with a wood and metal handle. Measures approximately 6″ H x 5 1/2″ diameter without handle. Good condition.
