Oil on linen signed by the artist and dated 1975, depicting a painterly red, orange, and yellow abstract form set within a verdant landscape. Carmello Castellano was born in Valencia in 1925 into a family of painters. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Valencia, winning the Grand Prize in 1949. Active in avant-garde circles, he joined the Groupe Z movement and moved to Paris in 1952. By the 1960s his work focused on metaphysics and abstraction, and he exhibited widely across Europe with works held in both private and public collections. Housed in a dark frame. Frame measures approximately 20 1/8″ H x 23 5/8″ W x 3/4″ D. Good condition.
