A pencil study portrait titled Emilie depicting a nude young woman in a seated pose against a pillow. Signed “Ch. Agard” on the lower left and housed in a gold gilt frame. Charles-Jean Agard (b. 1866, Dordogne, France) studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later in the studio of Léon Bonnat, working alongside artists such as Eugène Carrière, Puvis de Chavannes, and Alfred-Philippe Roll. He first exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1893 and later showed work with artists including Henri Lebasque and Georges Seurat. From 1914 to 1942 he regularly exhibited at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Agard is known for Post-Impressionist influenced landscapes, many painted in Limousin and the Île-de-France near his home in Nesles-la-Vallée. Measures approximately 22 3/4'' H x 22 1/4'' W, Good condition.
