We are thrilled to offer this mounted Gram Parsons poster in our auction!
It is one of the MOST DIFFICULT TO LOCATE Armadillo World Headquarters Posters of all! This original poster was produced for a February 21st concert at the Armadillo and designed by Texas poster Artist Ken Featherston. Ken was a major figure in the history of Armadillo World Headquarters and met his tragic end by mistakenly being shot to death at the venue at the age of 23 in 1975.
Gram Parsons obviously has a legacy all his own. His all too short career was packed with celebrated work during his time in the International Submarine Band, The Byrds, and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Perhaps his solo material had the most influential impact on future generations of singer/songwriters to come after him. Although Parsons didn't care for the term "Country Rock," he set a powerful tone for the genre with his memorable solo albums "GP" and "Grievous Angel".
This poster is from the stop in Austin when he toured across the United States as "Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels" (Featuring the lovely Emmylou Harris) during February and March of 1973. The show at the Armadillo World Headquarters on February 21st received a rapturous response from the audience and went down in history as one of the group's finest performances. Less than seven months later, the great Gram Parsons tragically passed away on September 19th, 1973, at the young age of 26.
