This 6-page booklet is a glimpse into the earliest days of the Grateful Dead fandom. It's the first fan club mailing for March 1967. The news of the day includes a recap of the Band’s recording, Anthem of the Sun, a mention that “The Golden Road” had become the top record in San Francisco, and several bits of priceless, fan-worthily information.
This long-buried document is the original Grateful Dead fan club offering. The Grateful Dead Fan Club was founded by Sue Swanson, Bob Mathews, and Connie Bonner Mosely, all of whom went on to become key figures in the Dead’s evolution and members of the organization.
It’s a wonder to find an item like this so well preserved. The booklet has age-appropriate toning, but otherwise is in top shape. We have found no evidence of another sale of this item. Later mailers from the early seventies are scarce, but this gem from ‘67 is in a league of its own.
