Polychrome Stone Statue of Guanyin, height 70cm, length 50cm, width 30cm. Buddhist statue dating from the Tang to Song dynasties, originating from temples or grottoes in the Central Plains. Designed in the style of Guanyin Bodhisattva “holding an image in the palm”, symbolizing protection and compassion. Carved from bluestone with mineral pigments and traces of gilding remaining, featuring a dense and ancient patina. Crafted using round carving and bas-relief techniques; Guanyin is depicted in a relaxed seated posture on a lotus base, supported by a large Buddha’s hand behind. The drapery flows smoothly, the face is round and plump. The polychrome and gilding reflect the solemn splendor of Buddhist worship. Tang to Song dynasties. This statue is a key artifact for studying ancient Buddhist art, stone carving techniques and aesthetic culture, witnessing the transition of Buddhist statues from the plump Tang style to the elegant Song style, possessing both artistic and religious value.
